The Story of Tawny Barn Ltd

Tawny Barn was founded by Stephen Gray.

Stephen comes from a generation where you created your own entertainment, before we all had gadgets and devices.  As a boy he “borrowed” wood from his dad’s workshop, to make small model boats that he sailed on the pond at the local park. This was the start of a lifetime passion with woodcraft and creativity.

Stephen always has to be making something, which sparked his career in engineering. After working with automated machines for 30 years, Stephen decided to combine his weekend passion, of making beautiful small pieces of furniture, with chisels and saws, to start a new business bringing together cutting edge machinery and woodcraft to create laser cut products.

Tawny Barn became a limited company in 2023, while wooden products are still at the heart of the business, other laser cutting product materials are used as well.

Stephen quickly realised that the biggest limitation of laser cutting, is the manual handling time required to feed the raw material to the laser.

Utilising his engineering skills, Stephen has now automated product handling, ensuring a more efficient service for his customers.

Tawny Barn operates a clean air policy by maintaining production machines and air filters ensuring we only release clean air into the environment.
